If you’re looking for a magical way to kick off the holiday season, Banff is calling! The Banff Christmas Market is more than just an event; it’s a reason to spend a charming weekend in the Rockies with family. Here’s how you can make the most of it!

The Market Itself

Held at the historic Banff Train Station, the Christmas Market runs from November 14–17, 22–24, November 29–December 1 and December 6-8, 2024. It’s a picture-perfect winter event, where the town is already aglow with festive lights. For just $15 per person, you’ll step into a winter wonderland featuring artisan pop-up shops, mouth-watering food vendors, and a chance to meet Santa and his reindeer! Keep your camera ready for horse-drawn carriages and festive decor, perfect for those Christmas card photos

Make It a Weekend

Day 1 – Arrival and Market Fun
Kick off your weekend by exploring Banff’s quaint downtown area. Check into a cozy hotel or charming Airbnb, then head straight for the market. Warm up with some local hot chocolate as you browse the booths for unique handmade gifts—from wool mittens to local art pieces. Enjoy live performances and maybe even catch Santa himself wandering through the stalls.

Day 2 – Explore Banff & In Search of Christmas Spirit
After a leisurely breakfast, why not spend the day exploring Banff’s stunning surroundings? If there’s snow, snowshoeing or ice skating at the scenic Vermilion Lakes makes for a great family activity. In the evening, don’t miss the immersive In Search of Christmas Spirit event at the nearby Cascade of Time Garden, where glowing animal sculptures and magical lights create a storybook winter atmosphere.

Day 3 – Relax Before Heading Home
Start your Sunday with a relaxing trip up the Banff Gondola. From the summit of Sulphur Mountain, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Rockies. This is also the perfect spot for family photos to wrap up your weekend before grabbing a final meal downtown and heading home.

Extra Tips

  • Tickets: Pre-book your tickets for the Christmas Market and any events like the Banff Craft Beer Festival if you’re planning on sampling Alberta’s best brews.
  • Weather: Bring layers! November can be snowy and chilly, but it also makes for a beautifully festive backdrop.

So, if you’re looking for a fun and festive way to spend a weekend in the Rockies, the Banff Christmas Market is the perfect destination. Make it a trip to remember and dive into the holiday magic that only Banff can offer!
